As Ageing Better in Birmingham enters its final years, we are keen to ensure that local, community-led grassroots projects are able to test out new and exciting ways of engaging with older people and beginning the process of making local neighbourhoods and communities more age-friendly.

Through the programme's 'Building Communities and Engagement' opportunity, we are seeking proposals from organisations to deliver projects that offer fresh, new ways of building and engaging communities that will appeal to older people aged 50 and over.

The projects to which we wish to award contracts must be innovative, testing approaches and/or activities to help connect older people with their communities that haven't been tried before.

  • Help older people overcome the loneliness or social isolation they may be experiencing or which they fear will affect them in the future.
  • Increase older people's social and community connections.
  • Clearly identify the community or communities the project is focused on.
  • Focus on achieving longer term outcomes – so that after your project, older people in your area of focus will be more engaged and connected and the risks of social isolation for older adults reduced.
  • Take a strengths-based approach to delivery – i.e. focus on people's skills and aptitudes, and on community assets, networks and resources.

We will be awarding contracts up to the value of £10,000 and all projects must be completed within an eight-month period and within a one-year 'window' up to 1st October 2020.

Further information and documentation can be found on BVSC's e-tendering portal, in-tend: https://in-tendhost.co.uk/bvsc/aspx/Home, This includes all the relevant guidance documentation detailing key requirements, outcomes and instructions on how to submit proposals.

All communication and proposals will be managed through our in-tend portal. Proposals can be submitted up until 12pm on Friday 30th August 2019.

If you would like to find out more about this opportunity, we will be holding an engagement event on Tuesday 16th July, 13:30 – 15:30 at BVSC. For details and to register your attendance, please click here.
