Bring your community together & help those over 50 to overcome isolation

Ageing Better in Birmingham - End of Year Round Up

Ageing Better is now moving into a phase of rolling out new projects to test the most effective way of addressing isolation in the over 50’s. Increasingly we are focusing on improving ‘connectedness’ between people rather than labelling people as isolated, as we are finding more and more that people want to take part in something positive.

Our four Local Action Plans are starting to take shape on the ground, and we would encourage people to look out for the following projects.

Sparkbrook Local Action Plan

-Connect Sparkbrook.

-Promoting Active Citizenship

Tyburn Local Action Plan

-Age Friendly Tyburn

-Community Organisers

-Care and Repair Scheme

-Good Neighbour Campaign

LGBT Local Action Plan

-Ageing with Pride

-Changing Practice within Health and Social Care

-Badging Scheme

Carers Local Action Plan

-Tellybudies

-Making Space for Carers

-Carers Voice

-Sitting Service

Whether it’s supporting the projects through giving your time and effort or looking to make new connections and friends with people we welcome your participation. If you are interested in the detail of how these projects will work, check out the Local Action Plan documents on the download page.

Keep an eye on this space and we will make sure we connect you to the different activities, and there is lots more to come! We have been working with Birmingham City Council to look at the way they support the independence of older adults in Birmingham. Across the Ageing Better areas new evidence is being produced around ‘what works’ and we are about to see much more of this in Birmingham. This is a really exciting time as we have never been more in need of activities to ensure that people have a happy and healthy later life; we're really pleased things are moving in the right direction in Birmingham.

Thanks to the brilliant communities that have worked to build better places to live, it’s been a brilliant year and we are expecting an amazing 2018. We are really looking forward to seeing the fruition of your creativity in 2018 and to making Birmingham an even better place to grow old.
