Cake that brings people together

A couple of weeks back a group of people got together at Two Snowhill Tower in Birmingham. They were met with a nice spread of afternoon tea, delicious cakes and great friends and aquaintances. Java & Chow is a group for 50+ LGBT people and their friends of all ages. They regularly get together for coffee mornings and lunch clubs at various venues in Birmingham city centre.  The lovely Jeraldene, who is also part of our Age of Experience Group encourages people of all ages and walks of life to come and join the group. She was recently interviewed by BBC West Midlands about her experiences with Ageing Better in Birmingham. Ageing Better in Birmingham - LGBT Survey

Ageing Better is an exciting new initiative which aims to help older people become more involved in their local communities, have a voice in service provision and set up their own networks and activities, to reduce their social isolation. This is a survey to gather views and experiences from members of the lesbian, gay, bi and trans communities of Birmingham and the surrounding areas. Your views will inform the development of a plan which aims to tackle the root causes of social isolation amongst older LGBT people. This plan will guide investment of £500,000 to address these issues. We want to know what 50+ LGBT people think about ageing and the risks of becoming socially isolated – that is, not feeling that there are enough opportunities in your life to socialise with other people whilst being open about your LGBT identity.
